The Pacific Island nation will open its border to quarantine-free travel for fully vaccinated visitors from partner countries which include Australia, New Zealand, the USA, the UK and the United Arab Emirates on December 1.

Other partner countries are Canada, Qatar, Germany, Spain, France, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland and most Pacific island countries and territories.

“To our friends in Australia and New Zealand and to the residents of other countries we’re preparing to welcome, our message is simple: Fiji is ready to welcome you back to our shores,” said Fiji’s Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama.

“We are entirely confident in our ability to manage the risk associated with quarantine-free travel. Our planes are prepared, our airports are adapted. Every Fijian hotel and tour operator in Fiji will be certified under the Care Fiji Commitment program. And our people’s world-renowned hospitality is as wonderful as you all remember.”

Travellers will be required to show evidence of a negative PCR test taken within three days of travel to Fiji.

The Pacific Islands nation of just under 900,000 people has reached a full vaccination rate amongst its adult population of just over 80 percent, with 96 percent having received a first dose.

“It’s been almost two years since we welcomed international visitors,” said Fiji’s Minister for Tourism, Faiyaz Koya.

“And in these two years, we’ve struggled, we’ve adapted and we’ve prepared. Today, our national airline is ready, our hotels and tour providers are ready, and Fijians are ready to safely welcome the world back. We are ready to let happiness find you again.”

“We are ecstatic that Fiji will open its borders to international visitors before the end of the year,” said Tourism Fiji’s CEO Brent Hill.

“This is the moment we have been planning for nearly two years now and I can assure the world that Fiji is safe and ready to welcome you back. The islands are just as beautiful – if not more beautiful – than ever and the locals just as warm and friendly.”

Marriott International has announced it will be reopening its Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay from December 1, while a number of its other Fiji properties will open from April 2022, including Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, which has undergone a $48 million refurbishment.

At this stage, Australians returning to Australia in December would still need to undergo quarantine on their return, but there are trials underway in NSW and South Australia for home quarantine, with the quarantine period in NSW only seven days.
