Asia Pacific – Premium drinks company Diageo has launched a new regional initiative for women in hospitality and tourism, as part of its five-year Plan W programme offering training and skills development to women of all socio-economic profiles in 17 Asia Pacific countries.

Diageo will be organising a conference titled “Celebrating Opportunities for Women in Tourism and Hospitality in Asia”, in partnership with Hilton Worldwide and the Singapore Committee for UN Women.

The conference will aim to connect important stakeholders in the industry to discuss and debate opportunities, challenges and issues women face in hospitality and tourism, explore career strategies, as well as encourage the sharing of best practices in innovative approaches.

It is slated to take place March 7, 2014 at Hilton Singapore on International Women’s Day.

Another initiative introduced under Plan W is the Women’s Empowerment Journalism Awards, which aims to recognise and honour outstanding achievements in the reporting of women’s issues across Asia Pacific.

Plan W was launched in 2012 and has since empowered 15,000 women in Asia Pacific over the last year through 32 initiatives in 12 markets and with 17 partners, according to Diageo.
