Following news that Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre finished as the runner-up in the International Association of Convention Centres APEX Award for the world’s best convention centre, Darwin Convention Centre has been revealed as a top 10 finisher for the 2020 award, coming in as the sixth best convention venue in the world.
The 1,200-seat Top End convention centre has been ranked in the top 20 for the past four years and for the latest award, jumped nine places to finish sixth.
“This ranking strengthens the Centre’s professional reputation for service delivery and further positions the Darwin Convention Centre, and Darwin, as a globally competitive destination to attract and stage international business events,” said the Northern Territory’s Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Natasha Fyles.
Darwin Convention Centre General Manager Peter Savoff was also pretty stoked about the result.
“As a convention centre in regional Australia, we believe we’re well and truly ‘punching above our weight’ in these rankings,” he said.
“Our boutique world-class venue is competing against many big capital city venues in these awards. To be ranked so highly not only delivers prestige and recognition but is also a source of pride and a boost for our team during these more recent challenging times for the business events sector world-wide.”
With the APEX Award decided by client satisfaction ratings, Savoff said the centre’s own client surveys showed a 95 percent satisfaction rate with the venue.
