Work-life balance and wellness can be achieved for a good cause even with a packed travel calendar, as micenet ASIA’s Gina Sin recently found out at a runWESTIN launch.

As a novice workout enthusiast, I jumped at the chance to attend the Asia Pacific launch of Westin Hotels & Resorts’ workout charity drive held at the recently-opened The Westin Singapore in February. The “runWESTIN. Work Out. Do Good” event drew on the Westin brand’s commitment in making fitness convenient for travellers, which included a focus on the New Balance gear lending programme, and a search for the hotel’s first runWESTIN concierge, its resident running expert.

My colleague Charline and I have attended our fair share of formal and professional networking events. It was hence refreshing to see future trendsetters and leaders of our generation all eager, vibrant, and fired up from the moment we arrived. Westin’s gear-lending programme offers foreign conference or meeting delegates the convenience of leaving sports gear out of the luggage to make room for shoes and attire needed at various networking and business functions. Westin has successfully debunked the perception that work-life balance is hard to achieve in Asia, especially for business and MICE professionals who travel extensively.
The launch event began with a press conference before proceeding to an inaugural run led by New Balance athletes Fang Jian Yong and Dina Chan, Vincent Ong, senior brand director of Asia Pacific at Starwood Hotels & Resorts, and Brian Povinelli, global brand leader of Westin Hotels and Resorts.

The three-kilometre run from Asia Square Tower to the Marina Bay Sands Shoppes was electrifying – participants started whipping out their GoPros and the run back to The Westin saw many of us stopping to take group selfies against the backdrop of the sun setting behind the Marina Bay Financial District. That was also the moment where the event went live on many social media platforms through the copious tags and hashtags. When we returned, we were treated to sample bites from the Westin’s SuperFoodsRx menu at Daily Treats before a shower, and winding down at Cook & Brew.

With corporate social responsibility on the rise, Westin is encouraging its guests to get fit for a good cause. Till the end of this April, a new pair of New Balance shoes will be donated to Soles4Souls – a charity providing footwear to those in need – for every 20 Westin New Balance gear reserved or borrowed, or runWESTIN running route map used during their stay at participating properties. New Balance shoes will be donated to Zhejiang Xinhua Compassion Education Foundation for Westin hotels in Greater China. m
