Cairns & Great Barrier Reef invites your delegates to embrace the spirit of this place, where stories are shared and memories are created.

Protocols for welcoming visitors to Country have been a part of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures for thousands of years. Clear boundaries separated the Country of each group, crossing these requires permission. Hosts welcome visitors, offering safe passage and protection of their spiritual being.

A Welcome to Country ceremony is delivered by Traditional Custodians at the beginning of an event and can include singing, dancing, smoking ceremonies or a speech in traditional language or English to welcome your delegates to Country.

Spend a day learning traditional hunting and gathering techniques of the coastal and rainforest Kuku Yalanji people with Walkabout Cultural Adventures. Venture into the mangroves in search of mud crabs and collect shellfish in tidal pools at Cooya Beach before your catch is cooked to enjoy for lunch.

The Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk showcases Mossman Gorge, a World Heritage-listed Eden hailed for its sparkling rainforest streams, cascading waterfalls, and dramatic gorge. Here, the magic of the rainforest comes to life with a local guide identifying bush foods and the many unusual uses for native plants. Hear the traditional stories of the area, witness a smoking ceremony and come that little bit closer to understanding the sacred land.

Add an unforgettable cultural spin on your delegate’s day on the reef with Dreamtime Dive & Snorkel. Your group will be welcomed to sea country by Indigenous Sea Rangers and hear the creation story of the Great Barrier Reef before exploring coral gardens below.

Flames of the Forest is like a fairytale; follow a flame-lit rainforest path to an enchanting silk-lined black marquee draped in twinkling lights. The didgeridoo fills the air and stories of culture and land are shared whilst the group feasts on native produce in this contemporary dining experience.

Explore four more ways to connect delegates to country in Cairns & Great Barrier Reef through an art class, an art fair, dance performances and a hands-on ancient eco tour.
