NAME: Michael Reece

BUSINESS NAME: Pullman Magenta Shores Resort

POSITION: Director of sales and marketing

What are you working on right now in anticipation of a return of events?

The team at Pullman Magenta Shores Resort have reacted incredibly well and established ourselves as a leading CovidSafe venue in Regional NSW, welcoming events back as restrictions were eased. In addition, Accor has established the ALLSAFE label, developed and vetted by Bureau Veritas, providing our guests peace of mind of the new hygiene and prevention measures in place to ensure their safety.

The focus is now on innovative ways to enhance the customer experience with hybrid meetings in full swing and creating that personal touch. We also understand that the event landscape will not look the same for a while, meaning developing strategies that allow our business to anticipate changes and react quickly.

What’s one lesson you have learnt during the COVID-19 lockdown period?

Biggest lesson is making sure you make the most out of every day! As we have seen, things can change very quickly and in unprecedented ways!

What do you value more now than you may have pre-COVID-19?

Walking around Woolworths with no mask!

In all honesty, the people around me who provide support during the tough times. You can see the support people are providing on LinkedIn to those they may not even know. Everyone has their own story and we are here to support each other.

How do you think events will change in the future?

I believe events will evolve within the next 12 months with a major focus on hybrid meetings thanks to technology on offer. However I see them returning to face-to-face as I believe the interactions and ability to communicate on this level won’t be received as well virtually due to the limitations.

There is also a shift in where companies are looking to hold their events, with a push to hold events regionally and support our own backyard. Clients will be looking for something different and that WOW factor so make sure you are creative!

Why are events important?

Events are an extremely effective way to share and present information as they engage the audience which creates a lasting impression. They also provide the ability of human connection which is invaluable in creating new relationships. Looking at the big picture, the events industry plays a significant role in our economy – providing jobs to thousands of people here in our cities and regional areas.
