What are you working on right now in anticipation of a return of events?

Well, most importantly, we have expanded our services for customers. Accor is now offering expert medical teleconsultations to guests staying at our hotels, resorts and apartments through our global partnership with AXA, a global leader in insurance and telemedicine solutions. All guests will have access to a network of thousands of accredited medical professionals 24/7 via a tele-medical consultation to assist with any medical situations that arise during their stay. This unique free-of-charge medical service can apply to any non-urgent medical need. This new benefit is part of Accor’s ALLSAFE global cleanliness and prevention standards, which were developed with and vetted by Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspections and certification. ALLSAFE has some of the most stringent cleaning standards in the hotel industry. We have implemented 16 additional protocols including an ALLSafe Officer in every hotel, additional training for our teams, and enhanced cleaning protocols, which include using medical grade products. We want to make sure that all guests have peace of mind when stay at an Accor property. In addition to these measures, we are identifying new ways to evolve the meeting & events space, through technology & innovative Food & Beverage options. We are also working hard to increase the flexibility of our commercial approach.

What’s one lesson you have learnt during the COVID-19 lockdown period?

I appreciate just how strong the culture at Accor is. We went into Covid-19 as a strong and unified team and we will emerge as a strong and unified team. In the midst of great uncertainty, our teams have been phenomenal; their care, compassion and kindness for one another and our guests is unparalleled. I am very proud to work for this business.

What do you value more now than you may have pre-COVID-19?

I value the ability to travel freely more than ever before. Like most people, I am keen to reengage with friendship groups and networks and look forward to those events, birthdays, anniversaries and celebrations that were postponed in 2020. Looking to the future, I think people will be more conscious of taking measures for health and safety reasons, and this will affect everyone differently – some habits and behaviours could change.

How do you think events will change in the future?

Following the lockdown, we expect people might want to hold events and conferences differently, in a more responsible and safe way, with a different mindset. This could include looking for more meaning and authenticity, shying away from services and products which are generic and undifferentiated. At Accor, we are working collectively to find – or even invent – the right answers to adapt to this new world. The Accor team will continue to deliver great experiences, providing a warm welcome in a clean, safe and comfortable environment

Why are events important?

Most people love to connect with one another and discover new ideas, post Covid-19 people will never take human connection for granted again.  Face to face relationships are important and events are a vital part of business and people’s lives; there is no doubt that sharing information at an event inspires trust, engagement, and alignment and drives team motivation.
