South Korea – The 80th UFI Congress held in Coex, Seoul last November was a success thanks to open communication between UFI and the host teams, as well as support from the Seoul Convention Bureau.

NAME OF EVENT: The 80th UFI Congress
VENUE: Coex, Seoul, South Korea
WHEN: November 13-16, 2013
PAX: 449

The 80th UFI Congress was held in Seoul last November. As an educational platform on the exhibitions industry, the congress provided a networking platform for its members to discuss themes of common interest. Statutory meetings including the Annual General Assembly and Board of Director’s meeting were held concurrently.

Seoul Convention Bureau played an integral role in making the Congress a success. Its areas of assistance include financial support during bidding and promotions, welcome kits, a multi-cube LED screen welcome at Incheon Airport, and a STO booth of workstations during the Congress.

UFI president for 2013-2014, Renaud Hamaide, said it seemed a natural fit for the Congress to be held in Seoul in 2013 when South Korea is “undergoing brisk economic growth, especially in the congress and exhibition sectors, and with no fewer than 19 Korean organisations as active UFI members”.

While the management of protocol issues was a challenge, the host teams and UFI maintained an open level of communication and professionalism that made the event a success.

The proximity of the congress venue to the congress hotels provided convenience, while the opening ceremony saw the appreciated attendance of Park Won Soon, Mayor of Seoul.

“Impressive professionalism and very hard work by our hosts meant that we had a truly world-class event. Korea, Seoul, and Coex all made a big impression on our delegates who enjoyed one of our best ever events,” said UFI managing director, Paul Woodward.
