Cairns Convention Centre’s satchels for schools program continued to grow during 2017 to include a variety of items clients and exhibitors wished to donate. Recently a load of assorted goods was collected and sent to children in Ghana and Sierra Leone and a large number of products despatched to schools in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Cape York Peninsular and to nursing homes in Georgetown, Normanton, Aurukun and Weipa.

To date the Satchels for Schools Program has delivered 14,303 satchel bags, plus notepads, pens, T shirts, hats, water bottles, toys, sunscreen and hand sanitizer to disadvantaged children.

Cairns Convention Centre GM, Ross Steele, said: “It is heartwarming to see how this program is assisting communities in Africa and our local Cape York region. I applaud the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the centre’s team to continue to grow the program which is just one of many CSR activities we undertake.”
