Yesterday premier of Western Australia (WA) Mark McGowan announced that the state will re-open its border to visitors from Victoria (Vic) and New South Wales (NSW) from December 8, 2020.

The announcement comes as WA’s chief health officer classified the spread of the virus from the two states as ‘very low risk’. Visitors will be required to undergo a health screening and temperature check on arrival in Western Australia.

Chief executive officer of Business Events Perth Gareth Martin welcomed the update, saying: “This is fantastic news for Western Australia’s business events industry and gives confidence to conference organisers planning an event on the west coast. We can’t wait to see our interstate friends back in Western Australia again soon.

“In recent months, Western Australia’s business events industry has been busy getting itself ready for interstate delegates, showing it can safely hold business events, with new COVID measures and procedures in place.

“The Western Australian Government has also enhanced the state’s contact tracing capabilities, with mandatory contact tracing at venues and businesses to be re-implemented from December 5, which will be made easier through the government’s SafeWA app.

“We’ve got so many exciting and unexpected new venues and experiences waiting to be discovered here in Western Australia, and we can’t wait for our friends across the country to come and explore them.”
