Despite tougher global competition Australia has not only retained its standing among the top 20 countries for hosting international meetings but strengthened its position, climbing from 19th to 13th in the annual International Congress & Convention Association rankings.

According to ICCA Australia hosted 253 meetings that fit its stringent criteria in 2012 – 49 more than 2011. Sydney was named Australia’s number one city, hosting 86 meetings.

No doubt part of Sydney’s success can be attributed to its ambassador program, with Business Events Sydney thanking current ambassadors and welcoming new ones to the fold earlier this week. Sydney ambassadors have generated close to $400 million in economic impact for the state since the group was founded.

More details will appear in micenet AUSTRALIA’s next edition.
