Business Events Sydney has opened applications for subvention funding for certain types of business events taking place next financial year.

Up to $60,000 per event is available for multi-day events of up to 600 face-to-face delegates which take place in Greater Sydney, Wollongong or Newcastle

The Accelerate Sydney Business Events Fund offers support for venue costs at $50 per in-person delegate for single-day events and $100 per in-person delegate for events running two days or longer.

Event organisers must match the contribution and there must be at least 100 physical delegates in attendance at the event.

Eligible event types include conferences, seminars, trade shows and training courses. Events must be business-to-business in nature and must run for at least six hours. Standalone gala dinners, charity events, incentives and festivals are not eligible for funding.

“This round of Accelerate funding will support the battle-hardened business events and tourism sector and accelerate economic recovery as we enter the 2022-23 financial year,” said NSW Minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade, Tourism and Sport and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres.

“Business events make a significant contribution to the NSW economy and stimulate business activity connecting in person with new clients, reconnecting networks and opening up new markets. Now is the time for us all to invest in reconnecting with colleagues and peers, to bring people back together, back to our cities and back to the office.”

The subvention program is funded by the $6 million allocated to business events in the COVID-19 Economic Recovery Package announced by the state government last October.

“Business events have a significant role to play to drive economic recovery for the prosperity of Sydney, NSW and Australia as we repair and rebuild; and we’re incredibly pleased to support businesses to play their part,” said BESydney CEO Lyn Lewis-Smith.

“No matter where you’re based in Australia, the Accelerate program provides a great incentive for you to book your next COVID Safe business meeting in Sydney and the surrounding cities.

“Business events generate knowledge exchange and deliver invaluable in-person connections and inspiration that continue well beyond the immediate experience, the lack of which I’m sure we have all felt over the last two years.”

Funding applications close on April 29, 2022, at 5pm AEST. Applications can be lodged via BESydney’s Meet in Sydney website.
