New Zealand continues to be a desirable destination for the Australian business events sector with plenty to smile about.
If you haven’t ventured beyond Australia for your annual meeting or incentive reward then New Zealand is the perfect destination to get your feet wet. And, if you have held an event in New Zealand before then you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how diverse the country is.
Due to its proximity, the good news is that you can take off from Australia in the morning and be attending your very own welcome reception that night. And that’s anywhere in New Zealand.
Direct flights to New Zealand are now available on Air New Zealand, Emirates, Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin Australia. Flights from Australia’s east coast take 3-4 hours and are available direct to five New Zealand cities.
Once you’re there, it’s certainly easy to get around. New Zealand is blessed with having fewer people and fewer motor vehicles. In Wellington, for example, it takes just 15 minutes to get from the airport to the city centre.
For the association sector particularly, there is an abundance of good and varied transport links throughout the country – from planes to choppers, cars, buses, campers, cable cars, ferries, trams, bikes, walking and steam trains.
New Zealand is geologically unique. It has fjords, mountains, geothermal hot pools, glaciers, lakes, rivers, sub-tropical native bush, white sand beaches and black sand beaches. There are other countries with some of these but nowhere else has all of them.
It makes good sense that when you’re trying to impress 800 people at your event, not everyone wants to do the same thing so you need a wide variety of options. And New Zealand certainly has that. From ice car driving, playing golf at Kauri Cliffs, sailing on an America’s Cup yacht, drinking wine in a Waiheke vineyard, climbing a dormant volcano, taking a dip in your own private mineral spa, fly fishing, discovering Milford Sound, heli-skiing in the Southern Alps… there really is something for everybody.
The `knowledge economy’
New Zealanders embrace what is called ‘Manaakitanga’ and are passionate about delivering the absolute best for business events visitors. The New Zealand business event industry is passionate about its product and its country and work together to make every event delivery happen seamlessly. What’s more, its residents are full of fresh, innovative ideas, and have in their midst a large number of world experts driving thinking in key areas including marine, aviation, agribusiness, health science, high value foods and earth science industries.
New Zealand’s international business manager, Bjoern Spreitzer says: “New Zealand delivers unbeatable, unique events in an international destination right next door to Australia. We have got sophisticated meeting spaces, stunning scenery and the warmest welcome on earth”.
“New Zealanders are exceptional hosts and visitors feel the spirit of manaakitanga – the uniquely New Zealand way of giving and making people feel welcome straight after arriving in the country.
“Inspirational experiences are never far away. Take in everything 100% Pure New Zealand has to offer, with a wide variety of memorable activities and landscapes literally just around the corner from your meeting venue.
“New Zealanders have taken many ‘firsts’ to the world, from splitting the atom to creating the disposable syringe or developing the jaw dropping bungy jump. And New Zealand is so accessible from Australia: after a short flight across the Tasman Sea you will explore gloriously uncrowded, but lively, cities and sceneries. And it all is an affordable luxury – enjoy watching your budget go further in New Zealand and be spoilt for choice!”
