Tasmanian firm the Vos Group and tourism operator, Federal Group, are teaming up again to build a premium hotel development on Hobart’s waterfront, set to open in 2015.

The Macquarie Wharf No. 1 redevelopment project will involve building a luxury hotel together with 3000 sqm of retail space incorporating restaurants, cafes, provedores and galleries.

The Vos Group recently announced an agreement with Federal Group to operate the new 113 suite luxury hotel and will soon be seeking expressions of interest for the lease of the ground floor to appealing food and beverage operators and retailers.

The Vos Group and Federal Group have previously partnered on the successful, nearby Henry Jones Art Hotel.

“The aim of the development is to build on the success of the Vos Group’s award winning Henry Jones complex by introducing more activities designed to attract visitors to the Hunter Street side of Sullivan’s Cove as well as enhance and improve open space and public access to the waterfront,” Vos Group chairman, Michael Vos, said.

“The team that created the highly successful Henry Jones complex has been re-formed to undertake the Macquarie Wharf No. 1 Redevelopment.  It comprises Circa Morris-Nunn Architects, Stanton Management Group and Vos Construction and Joinery Pty Ltd.

“In property development it’s all about location, location, location and this is absolutely the right location.”

Demolition of the existing structure is planned to commence early next month (July) with construction scheduled to start in late August.

The planned opening date for the development is October 2015.
