National Geographic certify Australian retreat

Thala Beach Nature Reserve, between Cairns and Port Douglas and favoured by small incentive groups, has joined National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World, one of only five memberships granted to an Australian eco-retreat. The membership achieved Advanced Eco-certification and Green Travel Leader status (Ecotourism Australia) through responsible and sustainable practices and environmental sensitivity. Thala’s unique accommodation is made up of 83 eco-designed, tree house-style bungalows, while function venues include a coconut palm plantation, private beach and Herbies Beach Shack.

ICC Sydney Theatre seeks naming partner

ICC Sydney Theatre is seeking a naming rights partner. The venue re-opened in 2016 and has since played host to 56 live entertainment events and generated $785 million in direct expenditure for the state. ICC CEO Geoff Donaghy said the venue is already in discussions with a number of high profile Australian and international brands. “This represents powerful brand exposure opportunities for a naming rights partner to match the venue’s world class credentials and enhance guest experiences,” he said.

Etihad airways and EgyptAir increase flights to Australia

Etihad Airways and EgyptAir have announced an expansion of their partnership, which will increase their destination reach in Australia, North Asia, South Korea and Africa. The agreement will come into effect for travel from May 2, and involve EgyptAir placing its ‘MS’ code on Etihad Airways flights from Abu Dhabi to Seoul, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Safwat Mussalam said “The cooperation between EgyptAir and Etihad Airways will give our customers seamless access to major cities in Australia.”

Marriott International announce new loyalty program

Marriott International has announced a set of member benefits to be rolled out this August. Members of Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) will be able to combine their accounts into a single loyalty portfolio, earn an average of 20 per cent more points for every dollar spent and have access to book stays and earn or redeem points among 29 global brands. Global marketing officer Karin Timpone said more exclusive member experiences will be unveiled throughout the year.

With over 20 years’ experience as a tour director and industry trainer, Mark has motivated audiences, wrangled unruly delegates and managed thousands of young adults spread across Europe. He is set to partake in the Inspiration Corner event segment, where speakers will impart global business and travel knowledge to attendees.

Tigerair kick off major sale

Hosting an interstate incentive between May and June? You may want to have a look at Tigerair’s sale. The airline are offering discounts of up to 40 per cent on the majority of domestic destinations until Thursday, including Sydney to the Gold Coast from $39.95 and Melbourne to Sydney from $54.95. Novatech snag two MEA state awards

Novatech Creative Event Technology received double the recognition at South Australia’s MEA state awards night, held at the Adelaide Town Hall on April 12. The audio-visual company was awarded in both the Audio-visual services and Special Event of the Year categories for its delivery of the Voices of Christmas project and commitment to bringing technical solutions to the nation. Managing director of Novatech Leko Novakovic thanked his team and partners for their commitment.

NSW Government invests in regional conferences

The NSW Government has committed a further $300,000 to attract and create business events across the state. Minister for tourism and major events Adam Marshall said the commitment follows the success of the NSW Regional Conferencing Development Grants Pilot Program. “We are committed to putting money where it is most needed, and the extra $300,000 will have significant flow-on effects to our local accommodation providers, restaurants and cafes, shops and attractions,” he said.
