Victoria’s lockdown to continue past current September 2 deadline

With Victoria recording its highest number of daily locally acquired COVID-19 cases this year on Sunday, Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed the lockdown would be extended beyond its scheduled end date this week.

The state notched up another 73 cases this morning.

“We see far too many cases today for us to be able to seriously consider opening up later this week,” said Andrews during yesterday’s press conference. Read more

There is a general unwillingness in the industry to mandate staff vaccination without prompting

Freedom to gather will only be reinstated if vaccination targets are achieved, the rates of transmissions come down and importantly, if COVIDSafe policies are implemented by the operators of live events and venues.

Our industry exists to bring people together. So, do we have a fundamental responsibility to lead policy rather than wait for vaccination to be mandated for our sector by Governments? Read more

New GM for Lizard Island

The luxury lodge on Lizard Island right on the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland has welcomed Leon Pink as its new General Manager.

The role at Lizard Island has brought Pink back to Australia from the Seychelles where he was GM of the Four Seasons property there.

Pink has extensive luxury hotel experience in Australia as well as overseas. Read more

National Convention Centre Canberra cooking 500 meals for those in need during lockdown

The National Convention Centre Canberra (NCCC) has relaunched the Cooked Meals Pilot Program in partnership with OzHarvest which sees the convention centre cook 500 meals a week to be distributed to those who need them by the food rescue charity.

The pilot program was first rolled out during the early months of the pandemic last year. During Canberra’s current COVID-19 lockdown, the venue has been reengaged by OzHarvest to participate in the program for the foreseeable future. Read more

Howard Springs quarantine facility gets tick of approval from business events expert

From a logistics and guest experience perspective, the Howard Springs quarantine facility outside Darwin gets a big tick from experienced business events practitioner, Suzanne Hart who flew home on a government-arranged flight from Bali with 185 others last week.

Hart, who owns SHE (Suzanne Hart Events) in Melbourne, has been working on events in Bali for the past five years until she retired in late 2019. Read more

Ovolo Hotels mandates vaccinations for staff and pledges to incentivise guests

Ovolo Hotels will make vaccination compulsory for all of its staff and offer incentives to guests to be fully vaccinated.

In what the brand is calling the “Vax. Pact” Ovolo is promising all staff at their Australian hotels will have a first vaccine dose by October 31 and be fully vaccinated by December 31.
