Fresh from the micenet AUSTRALIA and Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef educational last week with nine buyers participating, the Cairns bureau announced the region will be hosting the G20 Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ meeting prior to the 2014 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Brisbane.

“Hosting this event in our region is further testament that Cairns is a global business events destination,” said director of business events at Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef, Rosie Douglas.

“Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef was part of the whole of region group that prepared the successful bid. The group which included Cairns Airport, the Cairns Convention Centre, Advance Cairns and Cairns Regional Council, demonstrated the regional capability and cohesion that went close to winning the entire G20 meeting for the region.

“This announcement comes on the back of a very successful year for the Cairns Convention Centre which is hosting the highest percentage of international conferences of all Australian convention centres.”

Of the micenet AUSTRALIA/Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef educational, Ms Douglas said for a region as diverse as theirs “bringing meeting planners to our region to experience what is on offer, forms a critical part of our marketing strategy”.

Famil participants visited Cairns, Palm Cove and Port Douglas, enjoyed a trip to the reef, Skyrail to Kuranda, two helicopter flights, Harley Davidson rides, and had two off-site dinners, all with fabulous weather.

“We value our partnership with micenet AUSTRALIA, as it allows us to share those experiences with audiences throughout Australia,” Ms Douglas said.
