Rotorua District Council has developed an innovative, fully mobile information and booking service for conventions and meetings, known as pop-up i-SITE, to provide information on what to see and do in Rotorua.

The new initiative offers a bespoke service, providing free, unbiased destination advice that is available on-site as an added value for conference organisers and PCOs.

Destination Rotorua marketing trade manager, Patrick Dault, says programs such as this are usually found in the world’s leading conferences cities, such as Singapore, Montreal, Paris and London.

“The fact that we have such a program in Rotorua speaks volumes about the importance of the business events segment for our destination.

“This should be a godsend to planners as it means they will no longer have to race in order to find last minute activities, venues or restaurants.”

The mobile concierge is already booked for seven large conferences before the end of the year and proved a huge success at the recent Wood Expo 2013 and NZ Association of Orthodontists Conference.

Rotorua Visitor Centre and i-SITE assistant manager, Craig Hammond, says the pop-up i-SITE concept received excellent feedback when it was presented to delegates at this year’s annual i-SITE New Zealand conference in Hamilton last month.

“With i-SITEs across the country regularly looking for new ways of engaging with more visitors, this mobile service is being seen as an initiative with real potential.

“It’s great for us to be able to interact directly with visitors at these large meetings and to add an extra dimension to conferences being held in Rotorua,” Hammond says.
