New Zealand’s premiere international tourism event TRENZ will be held in Rotorua next year.
TRENZ 2015 will take place from May 17 to 20 at the Rotorua Energy Events Centre.
Rotorua made a successful bid after partnering with Explore Central North Island, a collective representing eight regions – The Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, Eastland, Hawke’s Bay, Ruapehu, Lake Taupo, Waikato and Rotorua.
Prime Minister John Key announced the winning bid at a press conference in Auckland this week.
The conference attracts more than 1000 tourist operators, buyers and media and is traditionally held in the same city for two years. The event brings tens of millions of dollars to the economy and several million to the host region.
Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick says winning TRENZ is a great opportunity to showcase the Rotorua district.
“Having TRENZ hosted in Rotorua really adds value to our vision of growing tourism and seeking economic development opportunities through spa development and attracting major events for the region.”
“Well done to our team of movers and shakers for their passion and commitment to getting this across the line. I’m very much looking forward to hosting TRENZ 2015.”
Destination Rotorua Marketing general manager Oscar Nathan says winning the TRENZ bid is a coup for the Central North Island and Rotorua.
“We put forward a really competitive bid, working with our local industry and partnering with Explore Central North Island, and are proud to be named as the hosts for 2015.”
TRENZ was last held in Rotorua in 2008.
