The significance of Australia’s business events industry was confirmed earlier this week with the Business Events Council of Australia (BECA) receiving a $110,000 research grant from the Federal Government.
The Tourism Quality (T-QUAL) grant is part of a Federal Government program aimed at stimulating sustainable economic growth in the Australian tourism industry.
“We are thrilled to be awarded such a strong grant to undertake some vital research on the value of the business events industry. This will enable us to take our research agenda to a new level,” BECA executive manager Inge Garofani said.
“This grant will be used for research to review the current situation for business events and identify the opportunity areas.”
Ms Garofani said the business events industry relied heavily on self-funded research to measure the value of the industry and to provide valuable data for continued development.
“Research must be carried out by reputable third parties to ensure impartial and valid collection but the cost of undertaking these projects often makes them unviable.
“The T-QUAL grant means that BECA can now look to develop a mechanism to allow more regular measurement in the future.”
