With everybody striving to achieve a healthy work/life balance, Queensland’s Gold Coast provides not only the environment but the activities to have jaded delegates mixing business with healthy pleasures.

When delegates spend their days in an office, making a conference room attractive can be a bit of a challenge. Conferencing in a location with an active, vibrant lifestyle however, makes a business trip feel far more like a productive getaway. And with the Gold Coast’s year round sun, fitness fanatics, and suits who surf, it has become a hotspot for corporate groups to rejuvenate their work schedule and lifestyle.

First class fitness
Sometimes you need a bit of glamour to make a fitness kick more enticing, and the luxury of Palazzo Versace Fitness & Wellbeing Centre certainly makes pumping iron a pleasure – if doing weights is your request, that is. Palazzo Versace Resort & Spa knows everyone’s goals and workout preferences are different. While some prefer downward dog yoga poses, others enjoy a brutal boot camp, so the resort uniquely tailors programs for groups and individual delegates. Each program is designed with all the elements of a lifestyle choice oriented towards wellbeing, health and fitness. The specialised team of fitness concierge coordinators work one-on-one with delegates to assess health and wellness, set goals and create a completely tailored fitness program using the hotel’s exclusive Technogym Wellness Key system. Delegates could spend their downtime resetting with tai-chi classes, pampering treatments, chilling in the sauna and steam room, or creating a personalised schedule with the fitness concierge for when they return home. The fitness concierge can also provide information on the best surf spots, kayaking adventures, nature walks and hikes.

The world is your workout room
Being just a minute’s walk away from the beach will surely inspire event attendees to get their feet into the sand and soak up some Vitamin D, and maybe even enjoy a bit of a sand run. Outrigger Surfers Paradise embodies the healthy lifestyle of the surfing centre, and works with Life’s a Gym to provide groups the opportunity to get out into the fresh air and become a part of it too. Life’s a Gym founder Nikki Fogden-Moore takes delegates through exercises that are fun, simple to do anywhere, and provide great results. The wakeup workout kick-starts the metabolism, builds core strength and renews body awareness. Nikki’s can-do attitude helps gets groups motivated to take the new, active lease on life back home. If event planners book at Outrigger Surfers Paradise before October 31, 2012, they can add the one-hour group wake up workout to the social program, or a $500 credit towards a cocktail or dinner function.

Beach bonding
Komune Resort and Beach Club has launched team-building with a difference. In line with its cheeky, beachside image organisers can create their own version of Baywatch or Bondi Rescue. With a group of up to 20 people, the team receives training in basic lifesaving, ocean awareness skills, beginners’ or advanced surfing lessons, as well as nutrition programs. The exercise is filmed by Komune’s in-house cameraman, and played at the end of the seminar during a cocktail function in the cinema deck. After slogging it out in their boardies, delegates can sit back and sip some sparkling or ice cold beer with great feedback and tips by one of the top ASP world ranked surfers. Other active activities include beach volleyball tournaments, whale watching, diving with the turtles at Cook Island, surfing the epic breaks around Coolangatta, or an early morning hike up Mount Warning to be the first in Australia to see the sunrise.

Gold Coast Active Lifestyle

As part of a program of ongoing training and support, the nutrition and weight management company Herbalife Australasia Pty Ltd united more than 400 Australian and New Zealand independent distributors at the Active Supervisor Retreat held on the Gold Coast for the second consecutive year.
“We thought that the Gold Coast would not only offer a warmer climate in the colder months of July but is also an exciting and appealing destination for Australian and New Zealand residents,” said event organiser Hannah Davis.
The three day event focused on training distributors on the corporate ‘Daily Methods of Operation’ with a program designed to fuel delegates’ ambition to take their independent distributor business to the next level.
With the assistance of the Gold Coast Convention Bureau, organisers chose Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort and Spa because the location of the outstanding conference facilities allowed delegates convenient access to the hub of activities in Surfers Paradise.
Infused with an on-brand theme of maximising health and potential, the agenda opened with a healthy lunch featuring Herbalife’s signature nutritional shakes. An invigorating beachside morning ‘Fit Club’ lifted energy levels ahead of day two, followed by the inspirational story of successful Herbalife business owner Rahimah Sulaiman from Malaysia.
“All distributors left the event with a clear sense of direction and inspiring stories from those who have achieved great success in their independent Herbalife business,” Ms Davis said.
“The venue, speakers and content of the event were great and attendees were inspired to take what they had learnt and put it into action.”
