The University of Western Australia (UWA) and the Perth Convention Bureau (PCB) joined forces last month in a bid to attract more highly sought after international and national conferences to WA with the launch of the UWA Conference Convener Support Desk.

The UWA Conference Convener Support Desk, located at the entrance of The University Club, will support UWA academics, staff and alumni to successfully bid for and secure more outstanding conferences for Western Australia.

Over the past three years conferences secured by UWA alumni and staff utilising PCB’s resources contributed almost $51 million to the Perth and Western Australian economy.

UWA vice chancellor, Professor Paul Johnson, said UWA welcomed PCB’s on-campus presence.

“We look forward to the increased profile of UWA and its alumni through increased international and national conferencing in Western Australia.”

In July earlier this year PCB exceeded its yearly target of securing $102 million in direct delegate expenditure. The bureau’s aim is to drive business tourism to Western Australia and the launch the UWA Conference Convener Support Desk is a further initiative to support this strategy.
