What did you want to be when you grew up: Believe it or not, to work in hotels! Your first job: Receptionist at Montagu Arms Hotel, New Forest, UK. Your first pay packet: 50p for washing my dad’s car! Your first break: Trying to enter the hotel industry without having experience was nearly impossible. All hotels wanted experienced candidates. I guess my big break was from a front office manager called Yvonne (who scared me to death!) and took that chance with me. Describe your current role: Working with my team to promote Crown hotels in Melbourne and Perth by increasing their business from the corporate, C&I and wholesale markets. The best part of your job: Working with my team on selling the best product in Australia, i.e. the Crown Towers, Crown Metropol, Crown Promenade in Melbourne, The Crown Metropol and Promenade in Perth, and soon to be the Crown Towers which is due to break ground next quarter in Perth. The worst: Haven’t found out yet! Who has inspired you: Cindy Novotny (an ex-boss) from Master Connections. Your best quality: Wanting work to be productive and have fun while doing it. Your worst quality: You’ll have to ask my team. Your best achievement: Enjoying 20+ years of hotel experience working all over the world from London, Beverly Hills, Hong Kong, and now Sydney. Where do you want to be in 10 years’ time: Sailing around the pristine areas of Australia with a glass of bubbles in my hand! Your likes about the MICE industries: Widening your circle of business colleagues and friends. Your dislikes: None come to mind.

Ms Matisan has an integrated marketing background having worked in public relations, advertising and marketing fields. She most recently worked as communications officer for global holiday giant RCI, managing public relations and member publications for the pacific.

Natasha Hardy has recently been appointed the RNA’s business development manager for the local market, bringing with her more than a decade of experience in securing, producing and delivering MICE activities throughout the nation. Ms Hardy will be part of a team responsible for instigating and managing business development for the $59 million world-class Royal International Convention Centre (RICC) Brisbane at the RNA Showgrounds, due to open in March 2013.

Zoe Clout has been appointed assistant director of sales – MICE at the Langham Place, Mongkok, Hong Kong. She brings to the role more than eight years’ experience in five-star hotels and event planning, focusing on the dynamic MICE market. In her new position, Ms Clout will focus on driving business from the Australian, New Zealand, UK and European markets, as part of the hotel’s strategic plan to further strengthen the growth in MICE business.

Damion Breust has been promoted to the position of head of event marketing Asia Pacific at Barklays in Singapore. He was previously deputy head of event marketing at the bank. He joined Barclays in 2008 after being executive director of The MINT Organization in Singapore, where he was responsible for the development and execution of event marketing strategies for large MMCs and luxury brands.
