The New Team

Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach recently announced the appointment of six key team members. Leading the team is the new general manager, Kate Gerits, who will oversee all hotel operations. Ms Gerits began her career in hotel operations in 1995 at Holiday Inn Old Sydney and has since worked across various IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) properties including Crowne Plaza Newcastle, Holiday Inn Darwin and the former Holiday Inn Brisbane. Thomas Zinn has been appointed executive assistant manager. Bringing more than eight years’ experience in the hospitality industry, Mr Zinn most recently oversaw operations at the Observatory Hotel in Sydney. Elizabeth West has been appointed Crowne Meetings sales manager. She joins the property with more than 18 years’ experience in hospitality, and was most recently the former catering sales manager of the Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney. David Docherty has been appointed senior guest experience manager, food & beverage. Originally from the United Kingdom, Mr Docherty brings a wealth of experience from leading London restaurants including Chez Gerad and China House. In 2003 he relocated to Australia, and opened his own café, Dark Blue, and more recently was the general manager for ARIA Catering at the Sydney Opera House. Matthew Duggan has been appointed executive chef. He was previously the executive chef of the Sebel Kirkton Park in the NSW Hunter Valley. Mathew Williams has been appointed manager of the oceans bar. He was previously the assistant manager of The Banker pub in the UK.

Suzana Bishop has been appointed general manager of the Club Melbourne Ambassador Program operated by the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). She returns to the MCEC team from MCI Australia where she oversaw the strategic direction of the Australian PCO division as Practice Leader Institutional Division. During this time she developed strong working relationships with key Club Melbourne ambassadors.

Bringing with her more than 20 years of industry experience in previous sales and marketing roles, she was most recently sales executive for the Shoal Bay Resort & Spa – Port Stephens and former marketing manager at the Macau Government Tourist Office.

Cherie Nicholl has been appointed to the newly-created position of general manager business & commercial development at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Ms Nicholl will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategic plans to support the growth of the largest annual event in the southern hemisphere, the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
