Perth’s newest stadium has won the popular public vote to be crowned Australia’s best stadium for the third year in a row at the 2022 Austadium Awards, beating the MCG in Melbourne and Accor Stadium in Sydney.
Optus Stadium secured 42 per cent of the vote, with the MCG winning 19 per cent and Accor Stadium 10 per cent.
This is the 60th award for the stadium which opened in January 2018. The venue was voted the world’s most beautiful stadium in the 2019 Prix Versailles.
Since opening, Optus Stadium has hosted 180 major events – including the AFL Grand Final in September 2021 as a result of a pandemic lockdown in Melbourne – and over 2,000 business events and special events.
“The success of the stadium is a collective effort – from VenuesWest, Public Transport Authority, VenuesLive, the operator, the players, entertainers, support staff, broadcasters, suppliers, partners, security and food and beverage staff and other stakeholders such as the Burswood Park Authority, Tourism WA and Town of Victoria Park to name a few,” said WA’s Acting Sport and Recreation Minister, Stephen Dawson.
“Since opening, the stadium and stadium park have evolved into a 365 day a year destination with a seven day a week café, expansive parklands and The OZONE which is home to the stadium’s behind the scenes tours, Indigenous cultural tours and the HALO and VERTIGO rooftop experiences, which has been enjoyed by 118,000 locals and tourists alike.”
