The state government has announced support packages for businesses across NSW impacted by the current lockdown of Greater Sydney – and this time the eligibility criteria don’t exclude the events industry.

Eligibility for the tourism and hospitality sectors includes having a turnover of at least $75,000 a year and a payroll below $10 million.

Grants of $10,000 are available for businesses who can demonstrate a 70 percent loss in revenue compared to an equivalent period in 2019. Grants of $7,000 and $5,000 are available to businesses who have lost 50 percent and 30 percent of their revenue respectively.

Payroll tax deferrals are also part of the NSW support package.

Funds will be made available from July 19, including for those working as sole traders.

The state financial support is on top of that offered by the federal government through its COVID-19 Disaster Payment, which provides $500 per week to eligible workers who are unable to attend work or has lost income from the second week of any lockdown onwards. Other eligibility criteria for this payment include having liquid assets of under $10,000 and not already receiving income support.
