Marketing automation and event management company Swift Digital has released a report exploring the shift to virtual events in the Australian events industry, with a key finding being that 54 per cent of organisations are not planning in-person events until at least April 2021.

‘2020 Lessons from the Shift to Virtual Events in the Australian Events Management Industry’ includes survey results from Swift Digital’s clients, who are predominantly organisations with more than 200 employees who run events with more than 100 attendees. The respondents’ roles were typically event managers and coordinators working in the government administration, finance, education and non-profit sectors.

Other findings included that 81 per cent of respondents reported the same or better attendance at virtual events than previous in-person events; virtual events are so effective that 67 per cent of respondents are planning to continue them once all restrictions are lifted; the ROI of virtual events exceeds the ROI of in-person events; and that 60 per cent of respondents will have reduced event budgets next year.
