The Hamilton & Waikato Convention Bureau has kicked off 2015 with a new convention bureau manager, Lynn Briggs.

Ms Briggs (formerly Robinson) has hit the ground running in her new role as the bureau has a busy year planned with a number of famils and events designed to showcase the region, as well as confirmed attendance at AIME, Convene and MEETINGS.

“As is the Waikato way, the bureau and our partners take a team approach to conferences and incentives, working together to deliver really unique and memorable events,” Ms Briggs said.

“Several of our region’s key attractions are receiving worldwide attention, and the Hamilton & Waikato region is becoming a popular option for all types of business events.”

Ms Briggs has previously worked in inbound tourism, corporate events, and sales and marketing roles with New Zealand and Australian tour operators, as well as for the NZ National Agricultural Fieldays and the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Hamilton Gardens

Hamilton Gardens recently received international recognition, winning the 2014 International Garden of the Year Award. The win was announced at the Gardens Without Limits Conference in Metz, France, with judges being wowed by the Gardens’ unique concept of telling ‘The Story of Gardens’.

Award Juror, Michel Gauthier, said the concept was ‘a leading example of integrating quality garden experiences to the tourist industry’. Owned and managed by Hamilton City Council, the gardens feature 21 themed gardens, with an additional five gardens to be constructed within the next four years.

The newest Fantasy Collection garden, the Tudor Garden, was unveiled in late January and reflects 16th century English aristocracy with geometric patterns and symbolism. The garden features an intricate knot garden, arbour, mythical beasts, pudding house and Elizabethan wall.

Hamilton Gardens is located only five minutes’ drive from the Hamilton CBD and close to Hamilton Airport. Event attendees can stretch their legs with a wander through the award-winning gardens, and enjoy a range of team-building and food and beverage options.
