unveiling Australia’s newest event destination
The Star, Sydney’s premium events and entertainment destination, is weeks away from opening the doors to its brand new Event Centre, Australia’s newest event venue. The Star, already home to award-winning venues including Momofuku Seiobo restaurant and The Darling hotel, will reveal the final piece to its $870-million transformation, with the opening of the Event Centre in January 2013.
Frederic Luvisutto, Managing Director of The Star, is extremely proud as he sees the last pieces of the development come together.

The Event Centre is already gaining international interest, with a number of high profile events already secured from the day of its opening. Its capacity to host 4000 people across 2200sqm, is a key feature the Event Centre’s designers – internationally renowned Fitzpatrick & Partners – have delivered, therefore making this a multi-purpose venue able to cater to international concerts, alongside meetings, tradeshows, exhibitions or gala dinners.
One of the stand-out features is the retractable seating. Adding a new element of flexibility to the venue, the retractable seating allows the space to be transformed from a conference plenary session, to a gala dinner for 1000 people at the switch of a button. With movable walls, rigging facilities and a number of staging options, the Event Centre will completely change what is possible in event delivery.
The flexibility of the venue extends to the food and beverage options. The Star’s Director of Culinary, Andy North, has helped to design the functional and advanced kitchen.
“We have worked to ensure that whether you’re hosting a conference for 400 people or a dinner for 1000, the cuisine makes the most of fresh Australian produce and the international influences across the various restaurants we have on site,” said Chef North.
The Event Centre will feature a dedicated entertainment department comprising a complete production team who have an extensive background in entertainment technology, show production and event design. The entertainment department is trained to ensure they make the best use of the state-of-the-art technology that has been designed and installed by the internationally acclaimed Canadian designers Sceno-Plus. The technology ranges from the latest in lighting, projection and sound systems through to over 1000 high speed wired and wireless internet connections, webcasting and video conferencing along with an on-site digital signage solution.
Supported by award winning restaurants and bars, five star accommodation across three separate on site properties, including the brand new boutique The Darling hotel and Spa, Astral Towers and Residences, the investment that The Star has made into the Event Centre will indeed change the standard of events in Sydney and across Australia.
