Brigadoon – Bundanoon’s annual Scottish Highland’s charity event which attracts up to 15,000 visitors each year – has been cancelled for the second year in a row due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The event has been running since 1978, and includes Scottish-themed musical performances, games and stalls. To date, it has disbursed $1.5 million back into the local community.
Last Thursday the Bundanoon Highland Gathering Committee decided that the New South Wales government’s 3000-person cap on outdoor events would result in too significant a financial loss for the 2021 event to proceed.
“As a small group of volunteers, the committee puts in a lot of effort and time throughout the year to put on the games and we are frustrated once again that Brigadoon has to be postponed,” Vice President of Bundanoon Highland Gathering Inc Alastair Saunders said.
“The Committee understands that there will be many in the community who are disappointed at this decision however we also know that the residents of Bundanoon and the wider community of friends of Brigadoon will understand that the only appropriate and sensible decision to keep our community safe was to cancel for 2021.”
The next instalment of Brigadoon has been scheduled for April 2, 2022.
