New Zealand’s largest city clinched its third consecutive award at the World MICE Awards 2022 on Sunday night, with the ceremony held at The Ritz-Carlton, Amman in Jordan.
The global awards are free to enter and voted on by business events professional and consumers from around the world.
Auckland beat Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Wellington, to take home the Oceania accolade.
“We are thrilled to be recognised as a leading destination by the global MICE industry as we continue to bring memorable business event experiences to our delegates, visitors and clients,” said Ken Pereira, head of the Auckland Convention Bureau.
“Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is a special region which leaves our visitors with unforgettable memories. It blends world-class infrastructure, experienced talent, advanced industries, natural beauty and breath-taking experiences.”
Tourism New Zealand’s general manager of NZ and business events Bjoern Spreitzer said the win was a testament to the nation’s collaborative approach.
“This recognition shows the strength of ‘team New Zealand’ in attracting events. From our well-respected flagship air carrier to Tourism New Zealand’s national funding and support and our amazing cities, New Zealand offers the world-leading infrastructure and people to deliver outstanding events.”
The global categories of the World MICE Awards were dominated by the Middle East, while no Australian representatives featured in the overall winners for Oceania.
Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) collected the gong for Australia’s best convention centre, while Pan Pacific Melbourne and Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast took out the hotel categories. ID Events Australia was named the country’s best organiser.
Air New Zealand took out the best airline in Oceania, while Ramada by Wyndham Newmarket Auckland was named Oceania’s best new MICE hotel and SMC Events, also based in New Zealand, was recognised as the region’s best organiser.
Cordis, Auckland and Blanket Bay won the two best hotel categories for New Zealand.
