Over the past 12 months I’ve written about 110,000 words for micenet. That’s a lot of stories capturing the second rollercoaster year of COVID-19 for the events and hospitality industries.
Through these stories I’ve been able to shine the light on people doing outstanding work.
Positive, talented humans who have been able to look to use the downtime to prepare their businesses and their people for the future.
What has stood out yet again has been the absolute determination, resilience and flexibility of those who work in our industry.
It has been tough.
Many people have left the industry as the rebound that we were excited about was stifled by the round-after-round of extended lockdowns and inconsistent border closures.
But in all the difficulties, there were rays of sunshine as some face-to-face events returned, as travel resumed with the easing of border restrictions and new hotels opened around the country.
The latest Omicron variant has shown us that we can’t get too ahead of ourselves. COVID-19 will have an enduring presence in some form for a long time.
Our best ammunition against it is vaccines and adherence to good safety systems – absolute safety protocol vigilance is essential and is a confidence booster.
The events and hospitality industries have shown that they can implement excellent safe event protocols.
I’ve had the chance to interview loads of great people and I thank them for letting me ask questions to help keep you, our readers, informed.
Every single interview was worthwhile.
We shed light on the work of some quiet achievers, on known leaders and on emerging ones.
Over the past 12 months, a lot has changed.
And in the coming year, a lot more will change too.
By working together, our industry will be stronger.
I’m looking forward to bringing you more interviews and stories in 2022.
Thanks for all the great feedback and encouragement. It’s time for a little recharge over Christmas.
