It’s been over six years since the training programs in the events sector have been updated but they’re on the threshold of a significant overhaul.
After years of lobbying and input from industry and extensive consultation, the updated training packages are awaiting Ministerial endorsement.
The Events, Travel, Tourism and Hospitality training package products were approved at the Australia Industry and Skills meeting in April and are now awaiting Ministerial endorsement prior to publication on training.gov.au, a collaboration between state and federal governments which documents nationally recognised training in the vocational education and training sector.
SkillsIQ has managed the lengthy process under the direction of the Industry Reference Committee for the hospitality and tourism industry. The updated packed will apply to all Vocational Education and Training (VET).
According to SkillsIQ, “it has been more than six years since the Training Package Products for the Events sector were formally and comprehensively updated. This project will look to address the key skills and knowledge gaps identified across the industry, and to ensure that training products are up to date with what industry needs”.
The project includes an update of the Certificate III in Events, the Diploma of Event Management and the Advanced Diploma of Event Management and 19 units of competency.
