Hotel group Accor has taken home the Employer of Choice award for organisations with over 1,000 staff at the Australian HR Awards last Friday.

Accor was judged on its leadership, engagement, communication and employee benefits to be recognised as the best large employer to work for in Australia.

“It is a great honour to receive this award that recognises our achievements in creating an extraordinary workplace. This award reinforces that we have a committed and caring team, who are passionate about supporting and developing people, and creating career pathways,” said Accor Pacific CEO, Sarah Derry.

“It is an exciting time to work in hospitality as the travel industry enters an era of transformation and growth.

“What I love about the hospitality industry is that it gives you the chance to grow and allows you to learn and develop yourself which opens doors to the world.

“We have many initiatives in our business that create incredible opportunities for career advancement and we recognise that greater flexibility in the workplace creates a fulfilling and inclusive team member experience.

“Our teams bring diversity, experiences and stories to our culture, which makes Accor a community for all to excel. Our people are integral to our success and growth and I could not be prouder of them,” said Derry.

As the hospitality and accommodation industry has struggled with labour shortages in the wake of business ramping up after two years of COVID disruptions and lockdowns, like others in the space, Accor has introduced employee initiatives in an attempt to entice more workers to the business.

In November 2021, Accor debuted its “Work Your Way” program, which boosted flexibility, perks and travel opportunities for staff, focussed on career development and optimised its recruitment process, including the introduction of same-day hiring for some frontline roles, from reception to housekeeping and food and beverage attendants.
