This month, to the elation of sweet tooths everywhere, DoubleTree by Hilton released the official recipe of its famous chocolate chip cookies. Although numerous fake recipes have circulated on the internet over the years, this was the first time the real deal became available to the masses.

And what better time? We’re all stuck inside on an endless search for activities, and there’s only so many times the floor can be scrubbed and F.R.I.E.N.D.S can be re-watched on Stan.

I decided to give the recipe a crack last weekend to test its suitability as a quarantine activity. I had a lot of fun baking the cookies, and came up with five reasons why you should do the same.

Oh, and before I forget, you can access the recipe here.

Most of the ingredients can be found at home – The finished product tastes fancy, but all of the ingredients that go into the cookies can be found in the picture below. Seriously. That’s it. Very basic stuff that you probably have lying around. All I had to buy were walnuts, chocolate chips and cinnamon. None of which, I can gladly confirm, are in short supply at the moment.

Hard to screw up – I can personally attest to the fact that this recipe is dummy friendly. I don’t share this much, but when I was 13 I put a pizza rounda, still in its plastic wrapping, in the microwave for 40 minutes. Green smoke billowed from the wreckage and my kitchen held an indeterminate stench for weeks. More recently, I melted my phone case on a stove top while cooking a curry. Not a proud moment. But I didn’t make a mistake cooking this recipe at all! I did have to put the bowl in the microwave for a few seconds to melt the butter, and I put the second batch in the oven for less time than the first so they were gooier, but overall the cookies were a success. And there was no green smoke in sight.

You’ll be instantly popular with your family/spouse – Tensions are certainly rising between those stuck inside with each other. Yesterday on the radio I heard of a man who sets aside 30 minutes each day to sit in his car alone for some space away from his spouse. Yikes. Well, there’s not too much that cookies can’t fix. If you whip up a batch of these, I guarantee that lingering arguments will be at least momentarily forgotten.

Get your luxury hotel fix – I think we’re all missing the luxury hotels at the moment. This might just be the closest way to feel as though you’re back in a lavish Hilton lobby before a five-star stay. Just spray a bit of jasmine-scented perfume into the air and you’re good to go.

They’re delicious! – I think it must be the walnuts, but damn are these cookies are incredible. On first bite, my mum said she’d never tasted anything like it in her life. And I believe her. I might just have to sneak into the kitchen to have another right now.
